Context and Issues
Self harm is on the increase in the UK and across the globe. We know that numbers of young people who self harm or think about suicide is on the increase. What we don’t know are actual figures because self injury is generally a private act. The trend however, is a frightening one.
The focus of this Conference is on enabling professionals to provide more relevant and/or appropriate support to children and young people who self harm.
Key Issues to be addressed are:
-Implications for you in your setting
-Impact of on-going self harm with on-site resources
-How equipped professionals are and their readiness to deal with the issues that self harm poses
-Implications for services (including education sector, police, youth offending teams, health) of young people self harming
-Circumventing situations and circumstances before they turn to self harm
-Safeguarding in the 21 Century
-Safeguarding young people against/from the media
-The current scale of Self Harm amongst children and young people.
-What else UK professionals can do to support children and young people who self injure?
-Self harm and Dissociation
-Self harm and Suicide Prevention
All Services working with children and young people, including: Education Sector, Police Services, Probation Services/Youth Offending Teams; Health Services; Local Authorities, Therapists
