Jump Jive and Shout jive night 12th April

21st March 2014 - 14:11 | London UK, Westminster |

Jump Jive and Shout is a lively, friendly, monthly jive night with retro diva and vinyl queen dj Jen Jackson spinning some of the very best in pulsating, energy driven forties and fifties rhythm and blues, jump jive, doo wop, boogie woogie, blues shouters and more – the roots of rock and roll.

A chance to hear some early American roots music with that fresh, raw sound from before the hip-hop and X Factor era. People really played musical instruments then and nothing was sampled or taken away. Join us as we celebrate those pioneers, some truly great names: Louis Jordan, Wynonnie Harris, Etta James, Tiny Bradshaw, Ruth Brown, The Chords, Big Joe Turner, Little Richard and a host of others. Dynamic sounds that rocked the juke boxes, gin houses and rent parties all over America. Music heard in early New Orleans, Chicago, Memphis and Harlem and even the Jamaican blues dances and domino nights held in the basements, halls and clubs of Notting Hill, Brixton and Ladbroke Grove in the fifties.

This month Jump Jive and Shout will be red hot with a sensational live show from Southampton combo The Black Kat Boppers. The Black Kat Boppers will be rockin the stage with their own brand of jump blues, fused with ska, jumpin' jive and doo wop. An amazing band to watch for a great night's entertainment. The Black Kat Boppers have stormed Bestival, Glastonbury, the Notting Hill Carnival and have performed with The Specials, Florence and the Machine and more. Their latest recording “Boppin' Atcha” makes it clear that the Black Kat Boppers mean business and are hear to stay. Club legend and musician Gaz Mayall declared “I’ve seen hundreds of rock n roll bands and The Black Kat Boppers are right at the very top!!“.

Always a great night out at Jump Jive and Shout on the second Saturday of the month.

Smart dress, or retro, vintage, glamour, forties, fifties and sixties appreciated, or use the TV show Mad Men and films like The Girl Can't Help it and Cadillac Records for your inspiration.
