Another lively, fun night out at Jump Jive and Shout, the monthly retro and vintage style jive night with vinyl dj Jeniffer Jackson spinning pulsating, energy driven 1940’s and 50’s rhythm and blues, jump jive, doo wop, boogie woogie, blues shouters and more. Dynamic sounds laid the foundations for what would later become known as "rock 'n' roll.
Join us as we celebrate some truly great names in early American dance music: Louis Jordan, Wynonnie Harris, Etta James, Tiny Bradshaw, Ruth Brown, The Chords, Big Joe Turner, Little Richard and a host of others. Music that rocked the juke joints, rent parties, and juke boxes all over America and changed the face of popular music forever.
Live on the night and making a welcome return to Jump Jive and Shout is the stylish London based outfit The Devout Sceptics - a band that performs well, are great to watch, write all their own songs and obviously enjoy what they do. Accomplished musicians with great chemistry The Devout Sceptics have their own sound which fuses Americana, country, blues and rockabilly. Delightful lead vocalist Collette Winter gives the band a certain charm with that country twang in her voice and the raw emotion of rockabilly queens Janice Martin and Wanda Jackson.
Always a great night out at Jump Jive and Shout on the second Saturday of the month.
Smart dress or retro, vintage, glamour, forties, fifties and sixties appreciated, or use the TV series Mad Men, and films The Girl Can't Help it and Cadillac Records for your inspiration.
