Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF): This first aid course qualification provides theoretical and practical training in first aid techniques that are specific to infants aged 0 to 1, and children aged from 1 year old to the onset of puberty. Learners will become familiar with the role of the paediatric first aider and be able to assess and react appropriately to an emergency situation such as a child or an infant who:
is unresponsive
has an airway obstruction
has a condition effecting the eyes, ears or nose
has a chronic medical condition or sudden illness
is experiencing the effects of extreme heat and/or cold
has been poisoned
has been bitten or stung
has sustained an electric shock
is suffering from shock
is wounded or bleeding
has a fracture or dislocation
has a head, neck or back injury

The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage is a document published by The Department for Children, Schools and Families and applies to Early Years childcare within England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Statutory Framework states that at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present. There must be at least one person on outings who has a current paediatric first aid certificate. Our Level 2 Award in Paediatric First Aid course is recognised as a qualification that fulfills this need.

How long will the course take? 
This award typically involves a 2 day course.
How is the Pediatric First Aid course qualification assessed?
This qualification is assessed through practical and oral questioning through the duration the course by the tutor with a 15-question multiple-choice examination at the end. Successful learners must achieve a score of at least 10 out of 15. Learners must practically demonstrate the application of the correct techniques in all the First Aid areas indicated within the learning outcomes of the unit.
What next?
Certificates for successful learners will be dispatched for distribution in due course (approx 2 weeks) by the Centre. Successful learners will also receive a wallet-sized plastic card detailing their qualification. This Pediatric First Aid Course qualification lasts for a period of 3 years, after which point learners will need to resit/refresh.
